Medical Conditions and Allergy Guidance – September 2026 Update
Schools must continue to follow the Department for Education’s existing statutory guidance, Supporting pupils at school with medical conditions. Separate statutory guidance, Allergy safety in schools, was published on 6 July 2026 and introduces specific duties relating to allergy safety. The wider changes to medical conditions guidance consulted upon in spring 2026 have not replaced the existing medical conditions guidance. Any references in earlier Birmingham resources to those wider proposals should be read as consultation information rather than current statutory requirements.
